How to Learn the Books of the Bible

For a Christian, reading the 66 biblical books is never in question. The issue is how to learn the books and draw as much Godly wisdom and insight as the Holy Spirit helps. To help you get as much as possible from the bible and strengthen your prayer life, devotions, fellowship, and Christian life here are some ways to learn the books of the bible.

Divide the books

Firstly, to understand the books of the bible is to divide them into New and Old Testaments. Divide the books further by categories on a piece of paper. For instance, the first category can contain the first books of the bible written by Moses, also referred to as the books of the law (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy).

The New Testament can also be categorized into different units, such as the gospels (Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John). A clear outline of the different books and their titles allows you to learn them fast.

Play and sing to remember

One of the easiest ways of remembering the different bible books is by putting them in a rhyme; you can use a song or create your own song and sing from Genesis through Malachi, Mathew to Revelation. With so many easy-to-remember songs available you can choose one and practice.

Interactive bible games are also available and allow players to easily recall all the different books, especially for kids. Find one that works for you or your child and see how it goes.

Read to learn

Once you know the books it’s time to learn all about them. You can start with either of the two testaments. To familiarize yourself with the Old Testament’s 39 books, you might want to come up with a clear plan to do so. Through the categories you come up with, read from one book to the next or find a method that works for you (such as reading one book from each category first).

The New Testament has 27 books and is quite easy to get a grasp of. Considering it’s mainly about Jesus Christ and his teachings, including the writings of his disciples and apostles, the New Testament can be quite easy to read. You can decide to go with the gospels first and learn all about Jesus and His days on earth or read a gospel and a letter from Paul etc.

Finding time is key to learning the Bible

As a Christian, you have a lifelong duty to read and learn the scriptures and as such, put aside some time every day as much as possible to have an in-depth study of God’s word.

You can go with the different bible categories, topics, etc. depending on what works for you. Most combine the Old and New Testament for intensive learning. There are so many ways of reading the bible. You can actually read for a few minutes before you retire to bed or immediately after waking up. Others have designated days of the week when they read the bible.

The key here is to keep reading the bible and finding as much motivation to help you read the bible daily. Once it becomes a habit your entire life and walk with Jesus Christ will change forever and you will become more familiar with the scriptures.
